Can ticks appear on beds?
It is possible. Ticks do not actively seek out beds, but they may end up there under certain circumstances:
How ticks get onto beds
- Pets on the bed — pets returning from outdoors may have ticks attached to their fur, which drop off onto sheets or pillows.
- Outdoor clothing — people who have been in grassy or wooded areas may carry ticks on pants or shirts; if they lie down without changing, ticks transfer to the bed.
- Via luggage — after camping or traveling, ticks may be hidden in luggage and later crawl onto the bed.
Steps to take if ticks are found on the bed
- Remove all bedding and wash in water above 60°C, then tumble dry on high heat.
- Carefully inspect mattress seams, edges, and bed slats for hidden ticks.
- Thoroughly vacuum the mattress, under the bed, and bedroom carpets; seal and discard the vacuum bag immediately.
- Spray bed frames, baseboards, and bedroom corners with permethrin-containing household insecticide to form a protective film.
- Apply tick preventive treatment to pets and check their entire body for attached ticks.
If ticks are found on the bed, it means the source (pet or person) was not addressed in time. In addition to cleaning the bed, trace the source of introduction.
