How to use deltamethrin for spider control indoors?

Deltamethrin is effective against spiders, but attention must be paid to usage. Spiders are not insects (they are arachnids) and have different sensitivity to insecticides, but deltamethrin's contact action still kills them.

Mode of action

Deltamethrin acts on the nervous system. Spiders that contact the treated surface will gradually be poisoned, paralyzed, and die. However, spiders are larger and have slower metabolisms, so they die more slowly than cockroaches or ants — typically within 24-48 hours.

Correct application method

  1. Remove webs first — use a broom or vacuum to remove webs and visible spiders before spraying, exposing their travel routes.
  2. Key spraying areas — wall corners, baseboards, window frames, door frames, storage room corners, behind and under furniture.
  3. Eaves and balconies — spray under outdoor eaves and balcony corners where spiders often build webs.
  4. Application technique — spray to form an even, slightly damp film on surfaces; do not let it run.

Effectiveness and residual duration

  • Once dry, deltamethrin forms a colorless, odorless film. Spiders that crawl over it die from contact poisoning.
  • Residual effect lasts about 2-4 weeks; spiders will not build webs in treated areas during this period.
  • New webbing will noticeably decrease in treated areas.

Other precautions

  • Spiders may re-enter from outside, so spraying around door and window frames is especially important.
  • Combining with sealing gaps and controlling indoor flying insects provides longer-lasting results.
  • If there are pets in the house, keep them out of treated areas until the spray is dry.
  • For large spiders (e.g., giant huntsman spiders), direct spraying may be needed to ensure elimination.

Best timing for control

Spray in spring (March-April) when spiders emerge from dormancy for best prevention; spray in autumn (October-November) when spiders are seeking overwintering sites to effectively prevent them from entering.

Integrated control approach

Combine chemical and physical measures. First clean the environment and seal gaps, then apply deltamethrin residual spray. This both kills existing spiders and prevents new ones from entering, giving the best results.
