Why Are There Still Bugs Even Though My Home Is Clean?
A clean home is your foundation for preventing pests. Here's what to focus on in each room:
Kitchen
- Wipe down the stovetop and countertops daily — no crumbs or grease left behind
- Wash and dry the sink every day; don't let dirty water or food scraps sit in it
- Take out kitchen trash daily; use a bin with a lid
- Vacuum behind and under the refrigerator regularly — it's a favorite cockroach hideout
- Store dry goods in airtight glass or plastic containers
- Inspect behind cabinets and under the sink once a month; clear out clutter and any pest droppings
Bathroom
- Keep it well-ventilated and dry. Install an exhaust fan and run it or open a window after showering
- Wipe down walls and floors after bathing to cut down on moisture
- Clean hair and debris out of floor drains regularly; consider installing pest-proof drain inserts
- Keep the toilet lid closed when not in use to discourage drain flies from laying eggs in the water trap
- Check the caulking around sinks and toilets; fix any leaks right away
Bedroom
- Wash sheets and duvet covers every 1–2 weeks, ideally in hot water (55°C / 130°F or higher)
- Wash or sun-dry pillows and duvet inserts every six months
- Vacuum the mattress thoroughly every quarter, especially along the seams
- Minimize fabric decor and piles of stuffed toys
- Place dehumidifier boxes in wardrobes; air out and sun-dry clothes when seasons change
Living room
- Vacuum sofas and carpets weekly — pet owners should aim for 2–3 times a week
- Wash curtains every six months
- Dust baseboards and corners regularly
- Don't let delivery boxes pile up at home — break them down and dispose of them the same day
