How to clean mold to prevent springtails?
Springtails and mold are "partners" — springtails feed on mold. Where there is mold, springtails have abundant food, and mold-prone areas are also damp, making them ideal for springtail survival.
Mold cleaning steps
- Wall mold spots — spray mold remover on spots; leave for 10-15 minutes, then wipe with a damp cloth. If mold remover is unavailable, use diluted white vinegar (1:1 with water).
- Tile gaps and sink edges — mold has penetrated deep into gaps; use an old toothbrush with mold remover or bleach to scrub vigorously.
- Moldy wood and cardboard — mold has penetrated internally; cannot be cleaned; discard and replace.
- After cleaning — wipe dry with a cloth; open windows or use a fan to ensure thorough drying.
Effect after cleaning
- Mold gone = springtails' food source cut off.
- Springtails with no food will leave or starve.
- Combine with spraying dinotefuran-containing household insecticide on corners and floor gaps to kill remaining springtails.
- Addressing the root cause prevents recurrence.
One sentence
Cleaning mold cuts off springtails' food; dehumidification destroys their home. Do both, and springtails will naturally disappear.
