Shore Flies Control & Removal Guide
(Brine flies, Water flies)*Scatella stagnalis* / Ephydridae
How They Get In
- Hallway damp areas breed flies that crawl through wall and door/window gaps.
- Bathroom and balcony standing water dead zones allow self-breeding.
- Damp walls and moldy corners provide suitable moist habitat.
- Ground-floor units near underground garages and landscaping have higher humidity and greater shore fly pressure.
How to Get Rid of Them
- Pre-Treatment: Thoroughly dry bathroom and balcony standing water. Treat damp walls and mold with mold remover. Use dehumidifier or exhaust fans to reduce humidity. Remove pets and children.;
- Key Zones: Bathroom wall corners, balcony damp corners and floor puddles, baseboard crevices, door/window bottom edges, around floor drains.;
- Application: Lightly spray damp walls and corners in lines. Spray balcony floors along corners. Spray door/window bottom edges. Let dry with ventilation.;
- Post-Treatment: Run exhaust fans or dehumidifiers. Shore flies cannot survive long-term in dry environments — reducing humidity directly suppresses populations. Inspect for and address leaks.;
- Prevention: Shore flies are a dampness indicator. Keep bathrooms and balconies ventilated and dry. Run exhaust fans 30 minutes after showering. Fix all leaking pipes and faucets. Empty pot tray water promptly. Clear balcony drains. Apply waterproof coating to damp wall areas.
Prevention & Follow-Up
Wipe up standing water on bathroom and balcony floors right away. Fix wall leaks and damp spots before they spread. Clean floor drains regularly so water flows freely. Keep rooms ventilated and dry—run a dehumidifier or exhaust fan to bring down indoor humidity. Empty plant saucer trays as soon as water collects so drain flies cannot breed there. Treat moldy wall areas with a mildew remover and apply a waterproof coating.
