Spider Beetles Control & Removal Guide

(Hump beetle, Shiny spider beetle)

*Gibbium psylloides* / Ptininae

How They Get In

  1. Purchased grain and dry goods carry eggs.
  2. Old furniture, bookcases, and cardboard boxes harbor beetle sources.
  3. Beetles slowly crawl from hallways and common storage into units.
  4. Long-uncleaned storage areas accumulate dust and debris providing food.

How to Get Rid of Them

  1. Pre-Treatment: Thoroughly clean cabinet dust and grain residues. Vacuum corners. Discard infested food. Seal sound food.;
  2. Key Zones: Cabinet joints, bookcase shelf gaps, wardrobe bottoms, dark wall corners.;
  3. Application: Spray dark corners and crevices. Never on food or clothing.;
  4. Post-Treatment: Close 1-2 hours, ventilate 1+ hour.;
  5. Prevention: Keep storage areas clean. Seal all grain and dry goods. Regularly clean cabinets and bookshelves.

Prevention & Follow-Up

Store grains and dry goods in airtight containers to cut off spider beetles' food supply. Regularly clean dust and food debris from cabinet corners, drawer bottoms, and under bookshelves. Don't let old cardboard boxes and clutter pile up—they make perfect hiding spots. Keep rooms well-ventilated and dry to discourage spider beetle breeding. If you find spider beetles, deep-clean all storage areas and vacuum dust and crumbs out of every crack and crevice.
